Easter Sunday and I am beginning a new blog! I am excited about this time of renewal and rebirth. It felt like the right time. I plan to share things about travel, cooking, health and wellness. I realized I have so much more to share than just an Instagram post.
I’ve learned a lot in the last few years since my last blog. Mostly about technology and how much I’ve changed. We are always changing and if you are not then you are stuck and it’s time to get unstuck.
I was most recently thinking about Easter, and I love seeing women wearing Easter bonnets. I would look for them, mostly the church ladies seem to wear them now a days. I wondered about the tradition and how it started.
One of the most iconic symbols of Easter is the Easter bonnet. These decorative hats are a popular accessory worn on Easter Sunday and are often adorned with flowers, ribbons, and other festive embellishments.
The tradition of wearing Easter bonnets dates back to the 16th century when people would wear new clothes to celebrate the arrival of spring and the end of the long, dark winter. The tradition of wearing bonnets on Easter Sunday began in the 19th century in the United States, where women would wear decorated hats to church to celebrate the holiday. As the years went on, the tradition spread around the world and became a popular symbol of Easter.

Easter bonnets come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are large and elaborate, while others are small and simple. The most common colors for Easter bonnets are pastels, such as pink, blue, and yellow, which represent the colors of spring. Many bonnets are decorated with flowers, either real or artificial, as well as ribbons, lace, and other embellishments.
In addition to being a fun accessory, Easter bonnets also have a deeper significance. The bonnets are a symbol of renewal and rebirth, which are themes that are central to the Easter holiday. The bonnets also represent the joy and hope that comes with the arrival of spring, as well as the promise of new beginnings.
One of the most famous Easter bonnet traditions takes place in New York City, where people gather on Fifth Avenue to participate in the Easter Parade. The parade, which began in the mid-1800s, features people dressed in their finest Easter attire, including elaborate Easter bonnets. The parade has become a beloved tradition in New York City, attracting tourists and locals alike.
In conclusion, Easter bonnets are a fun and festive tradition that has been around for centuries. These decorative hats are a symbol of the arrival of spring, new beginnings, and the joy of the Easter holiday. Whether you choose to wear an elaborate, decorated bonnet or a simple, understated one, Easter bonnets are a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday and spread some joy and cheer.
I am wishing you a Happy Easter to all who celebrate! Do you wear an Easter bonnet and what are you grateful for this time of year?
Xx
